Program Description
Community Counseling Center (CCC) is a mental health safety net contributor and preventative care provider of professional, affordable psychotherapy for the economically disadvantaged and under-insured residents of the Central Coast. CCC offers three distinct therapy programs to support psychological healing and emotional well-being.
Sliding Scale Program: The agency’s core program has been offered since 1968 and is designed for community members that are financially constrained and medically un-insured. Fees are set on a sliding scale according to each client's net household monthly income and ability to pay. Session fees range from $1.00 to $70.00 and no one is turned away as a result of an inability to pay. Under the sliding scale program 10-15 sessions of family, couple, or individual counseling for relationship issues, bereavement issues, parenting problems and life transition situations are provided, all of which are suitable for short-term treatment. The sliding scale core program can be accessed at all five of the agency’s community-based clinics running from Paso Robles to Santa Maria. It may be necessary to refer our clients whose conditions are not appropriate for short-term counseling such as: substance abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, custody cases and chronic mental illness. No one is denied services on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental disability.
Cencal/MediCal Insurance Program: The agency accepts CenCal/MediCal insurance for mental health counseling coverage through a partnership with The Holman Group (a private managed care agency contracted by CenCal to implement the Affordable Care Act Mental Health benefit). The CenCal/MediCal benefit is available to individuals (no couples or family) with "mild to moderate" issues and can be utilized for longer term treatment based upon medical necessity. CCC coordinates a panel of over 30 agency providers that are credentialed by The Holman Group to provide therapy to the Medi-Cal/CenCal population on the Central Coast. The sliding scale core program can be accessed at all five of the agency’s community-based clinics running from Paso Robles to Santa Maria. The benefit typically offers clients full coverage without any out of pocket co-pay required. In some instances, clients may have forms of Medi-Cal that only offer shared cost coverage.
On-Campus K-12 Youth Counseling Program: The agency serves five of our local School Districts by providing on-campus therapy resources to over 20 school sites in San Luis Obispo County. Services are free to students and reimbursements are made directly to the Community Counseling Center through separate contracts with each School District. Therapists can be found in the Lucia Mar, San Luis Coastal, Atascadero, Templeton and Paso Robles Unified School Districts.
Therapeutic Alternatives: Persons who are financially able, through income or private insurance coverage, to use private services, are offered referrals. Those with needs beyond the scope of CCC are given appropriate community resources with strengths in those service areas.
The organization is staffed by qualified, state-licensed, therapists or graduate level, supervised interns and trainees. The primary purpose is to assist individuals and families to develop the ability to find choices and make changes when life becomes difficult during times of transition, confusion, depression, stress or grief. No one is denied services on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental disability.
